What does your business specialize in?

Believe Pediatrics specializes in play-based language therapy. Low-tech AAC (coreboard) and Simple ASL (American Sign Language)! They serve ages 2 - 5 in speech-language development.
What is the purpose of your business? Who is your target audience?

The purpose of our business is to reach and connect with families who are of lower socioeconomic status. We educate parents on what to look for to initiate early intervention. We are dedicated to reaching those who don’t have direct status/access to specialized services.
What is the inspiration behind your business? Who do you want to inspire through your business?

After attending a Better Business Bureau discussion on beginning your own small business Desiree was inspired to start her small business journey. Her husband, Shonte Darby encouraged and supported her vision. She also felt encouraged by her late father who always called her “Dr.Byers”.
With years of experience in her career field, she also wanted to inspire parents of young children to become more knowledgeable advocates.
She hopes her small business will inspire other black SLPs to start their practice.

Believe Pediatrics is a result of Desiree’s faith in God and she believes her passion and dedication to the service of her patients is a representation of that.
Believe Pediatrics also represents Minority SLP, business owners which only make up 4% of speech-language pathologists in the United States.

How does your business empower your community?

Believe Pediatrics empowers the community by educating! They educate parents and give them tools to advocate for their children. They also educate practitioners and paraprofessionals by helping them see the signs to initiate early intervention for children and adults.
